Senator Christensen Fights for School Staff to Optionally Carry Guns

State Senator Mark Christensen of Imperial wants teachers and staff in public schools to be allowed to carry guns. Christensen has formulated this idea into a bill that he has proposed and is fighting for in the Legislature on Friday. Christensen says that schools in western Nebraska are often far away from immediate response teams to help alleviate dangerous situations and that these schools could particuarly benefit from this change. Each Nebraska school's board would individually get to decide if their staff would be allowed to carry guns. LPS Security Director, Joe Wright, doesn't like the idea of having guns in schools.
